Forecasting systems match their forecast to the products historical demand pattern by automatically modifying the model's smoothing parameters. In addition to automatic parameter modifica¬tion, the forecasting analyst can truncate the historical basis of the time series. This would be done if significant differences in demand existed between more recent versus past time periods.
